A picnic area is located just south of the Park entrance on the Jamison Creek. This is a free day use area with handicap access. Dogs are allowed in the park, but must be kept on a 6 foot leash at all times. Visitors are required to pick up after their dogs and keep their dogs quiet. Dogs can never be left alone in campsites and must be kept inside either a tent or vehicle at night. They are not allowed on most trails within the park, but there is direct access to National Forest Service land where they may accompany you on hikes (remember to pack additional water for your dog). When hiking in the National Forest please keep your dog on a leash for it's own safety and to protect the wildlife.
As one would expect in the High Sierra, Plumas Eureka has a definite 4 Seasons. Winter brings snow and ice. Spring is generally wet. Summer temperatures can reach 90 degrees and thunder storms can blow up seemingly out of nowhere. Fall is spectacular with bright golds and reds contrasting with the dark evergreens and temperatures in the low 70's during the day, cooling off to the low 30's at night. Layered clothing is advisable during all seasons as our temperatures, combined with your activity level, will usually have you shedding layers as the day progresses. However, even in summertime, it's best to come prepared with at least some cold weather clothing - you never know what temperatures the mountains will bring - the weather can change quickly.
