The Blacksmith Shop
This shop contains many of the original tools used when the mine was in operation. The blacksmith worked mainly with iron, melting and heating it so it became soft enough to hammer into needed shapes. In the mining days, the blacksmith had many jobs including making hardware, horse shoes, hinges, kettles, nails, and weapons as well as doing repairs and even pulling teeth! Many blacksmiths also practiced veterinary care, because while shoeing horses they learned about horse diseases and treatments.
During many days of the camping season, you will be able to observe a blacksmith at work as some of the park's docents create beautiful and practical gifts from the raw iron.
